Non-Surgical Eye Lift for Dark Circles, Eye Bags and Sunken Eyes

Non-Surgical Eyelift is one of the most greatest advances in aesthetic medicine  also known as the tear trough procedure.

In 95% of patients presenting with a lower eye bag, dark circle or a loss of volume in the area below the eye, we can now correct the problem with a careful and precise application of hyaluronic acid fillers. In our experience even the older patient with a significant lower eyebag swelling and skin laxity, can benefit from this procedure greatly.

The results are instantaneous as the eyebags literally disappear. The results are amazing and the patients are extremely happy.

How does it work?

Tear troughs are depressions which run from the nose and all around under the eye. These depressions get worse as we age, as a result of the sagging skin and facial fat underneath, leaving this depression. As the face ages this gives the appearance of lower eye bags and dark circles.

In the past, it was thought that only surgery could improve the eye bags, and there were no effective treatments for the annoying dark circles under the eyes. We use a very careful multiple puncture technique, injecting the dermal filler deep just above the orbital bone.

We make precise injections depositing small boluses, and massaging them and moulding them carefully along the way. Like a patchwork, we slowly build up the filler. The results are spectacular. This procedure rejuvenates the tired aging face like no other and the results can last as long as 12-18 months.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes around 10-15 minutes, and the results are instantaneous.

Does it hurt?
The area treated is not very sensitive and pain in most patients is minimal, so much so that we usually do not use any analgesia at all for this procedure.

How long do the results last?
The results will last around 12-18 months, but in many cases it can be even longer. Once the patient has had a few top ups, the results can be very long lasting indeed.

What are the advantages of this procedure over surgery?

We will assess every patient thoroughly before deciding whether they are suitable for this non-surgical procedure. Most patients who previously thought that their only alternative was surgery, are pleasantly surprised when they are told that this quick and simple procedure can solve their problem.

The advantages of avoiding surgery are many:
No surgical scarring
No General Anesthesia
No hospital overnight stays

This really is a daytime procedure, and the patient can usually get on with their normal daily routine straight away.

No time off work.

In many cases better and more natural results than with the surgical alternative.

Dark circles, eye bags or sunken eyes can be a premature sign of aging, or make an individual look unhealthy or tired.  Healthy and fit individuals with any one of these conditions may look unwell or dragging, even when they are not.

Now there is a non-invasive, safe, and cost effective alternative to surgery for these problems, with the use of Dermal fillers to fill and smooth out the lower eyelid contour.

What Are Tear Troughs?

Tear troughs are semi-circular creases/depressions which start at the nose and run along the bottom of the lower eyelid just above the cheek bone. These depressions can produce the illusion of darkening around the eyes resulting in ‘dark circles’ or ‘tired eyes’.

As we age, the eyelid above and cheek below begin to sag however the depression cannot sag with the rest of the facial skin due to its ligamentous attachment to the bone of the eye socket. This results in the depression deepening and the shadow and dark circle becoming more noticeable.

What is Tear Troughs Treatment?

When tear trough deformities are present, an injectable dermal filler such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane can be used to correct them. The goal is to fill the trough below the bag and lift the cheek to provide a more natural contour between the two, effectively masking the appearance of the bag.

The Procedure

The filler is injected with a very fine micro needle under the skin surface along the line of the hollow. An anesthetic cream may be applied to the area for 30 minutes prior to the treatment although often no anesthetic cream is required. The area is then gently massaged.

After the Procedure

The results with dermal fillers are instant. After the treatment the treated area may be slightly red and/or slightly swollen, however you can resume normal activities, drive yourself home or return to work immediately after the treatment.

How Long Will the Effect Last?

The results typically last 9 months to over a year although the exact length of time will depend on the structure of your skin and other factors such as lifestyle, age and the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. Additional touch up treatments can be performed at any time after the initial treatment.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Although uncommon, possible adverse effects may include:

  • Injection-related reactions. The may be some mild redness in the treated area which usually resolves after a few hours. Swelling is also seen immediately after the treatment and lasts on average no more than 48 hours. Occasionally bruising can occur which if significant may last 5-7 days. During this time make-up can be applied.

  • New York Dermatology by Board Certified  Dermatologist Dr. Gary Rothfeld  is a board certified NYC  Dermatologist with a  New York City office in Manhattan, New York  providing expert skin care, dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology services.

I personally see every new patient who visits our office. I am not just a physician, I am a Board Certified Dermatologist. My goal is, quite simply, to provide the type of dermatologic care which I  would seek for my own family. This is a very important point, since physicians often use the phrase "Doctor's Doctor" to refer to those individuals who typically are selected by physicians themselves for personal care. I am confident that my practice fully meets that definition. This is the type of 5-star care and service that our patients expect, deserve and receive. I treat every patient the way I would want to be treated: with courtesy, dignity and respect. I carefully listen to their hair and skin-care concerns and offer a variety of options including a treatment plan that I believe will give them the best results

Dr Gary sees every patient himself and  believes in personalized care. The Doctor does not employ any physician assistants, nurse practitioners, or other physician substitutes to do his treatment. He sees every patient himself at every visit.

A significant percentage of my  Dermatology Conditions are diagnosed  on listening to medical history of the patient alone, a further percentage on examination and the remainder on further investigation and my patients teach me the rest. It is clear to me that history and examination skills remain at the very core of my dermatology practice. Older Dermatologists like myself rely on history and physical to a greater degree than the younger dermatologists.  I think that the pendulum has swung too far towards all these cosmetic procedures where the younger dermatologists are just doing cosmetic procedures and not listening to their patients.  This is an important point because if the Dermatologist does not spend enough time with the patient the cosmetic procedures will not work.
